Ballet/Tap
Combo (3-5): Our combination ballet and tap class is an introductory course
to the world of dance. Students begin to develop dance terminology and creative
movement dance styles that sets a solid dance foundation.
Ballet:
The foundation of all dance styles, ballet is the form of dance that teaches
control, strength, flexibility, and proper technique. Class begins with an
intensive barre work out, followed by a complex center combination, then
exercises taken across the floor. Every student is strongly encouraged to
attend one ballet class a week to enhance their regular dance schedule.
Tap:
Tap is a rhythmic form of dance used mainly with the feet that produce sounds
made from the tap shoe. Tap is entertaining to watch and fun to do.
Jazz:
Jazz encompasses strong ballet technique with faster paced pop music and funk
style. Students develop stronger turns, leaps, and jumps. Ballet is strongly
encouraged to develop jazz technique at a faster pace. Salsa Jazz
encompasses the same jazz technique as found in a basic jazz class but is set to
Latin inspired music and movements. This is a fun twist on jazz style.
Contemporary: Contemporary is a combination of modern, lyrical, and jazz
dance styles that encompasses ballet technique. Contemporary requires an
emotional aspect to the dance that tells a story through movement. Contemporary
is offered to advanced students who have strong mental and physical capacities
to portray contemporary dance properly.
Hip-Hop:
Described as a funky jazz or street jazz, hip-hop has a more urban feel.
Hip-hop is more grounded than jazz and is inspired by hip-hop and pop music.
Tumbling/ Acrobatics: Similar to
gymnastics, acrobatics only requires the use of floor mats to do forward and
backwards rolls, cartwheels, ariels, backhand springs and such. Acrobatics
quickly develops flexibility and agility.
Musical Theater: Students get
the best of both worlds in this combination class. The class was created to
give theater and drama students a more solid foundation in vocal and dance
technique to pursue their goals of getting better auditions and winning the
part. Students master basic dance technique and choreography skills, as well as
vocal technique for group and solo parts.
Zumba: This Latin-inspired,
dance-fitness class incorporates Latin and International music and dance
movements, which create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! The
class provides a toning and body-sculpting format with cardio-based movements
that are easy-to-follow and really fun to do. It is said participants can lose
up to 700 calories in one class. Zumba encompasses Salsa, Cumbia, Meringue, and
Raggaeton.
Parent Tot: A parent joins their
child in this introductory music & movement class for ages 1.5-3.
Children explore song, dance, and tumbling with the use of musical instruments,
dance props, obstacle courses, and tumbling equipment.
New York City Ballet Stretch &
Condition: Using the syllabus and techniques established by the world
renowned New York City Ballet Company, this class sculpts the body to look and
feel like a strong dancer. The class uses basic ballet technique such as plies,
releves, tendus, and battements to tone and strengthen the muscles. Students
gain flexibility and strength.
